One beautiful Californian evening, a wealthy businessman falls to his death from his secluded cliff-top house onto the rocks below.

A tragic accident? Or murder?
Nora and her half-brother Sam suspect it may be the latter, and team up to uncover the truth of what really happened that night.
But their relationship has never been easy, and it is about to be tested to the limit as they start to question how well either of them really knew their elusive father.
Unravelling his mysterious past takes them back to a world they knew nothing about, to a tangled love affair and a web of relationships that other people would far rather stay buried...
Filled with passion, intrigue, lies, and dark, dark family secrets, The Night We Lost Him is a page turning mystery you won't ever want to put down.

Estranged half-siblings reunite to investigate the death of their father, self-made hotel magnate Liam Noone, in this soapy family saga from Dave (The Last Thing He Told Me). Brooklyn-based architect Nora is surprised, after years of fighting to maintain her independence from her father, by the depth of her grief following his fatal fall from the cliff outside his California home. Nora is further blindsided when Sam, the younger half-brother she barely knows from the second of Liamโ€™s three marriages, reaches out to share his suspicion that the tragedy was no accident. Nora and Samโ€”who began working at the family firm after an accident derailed his promising baseball careerโ€”start squabbling almost instantly, but stonewalling from Liamโ€™s cousin and business partner, Joe, and from the California cops whose probe of Liamโ€™s death was perfunctory at best, convince the pair thereโ€™s a mystery to solve. Whether Liam was murdered is a question Dave dangles tantalizingly as the siblings press for answers from the family and friends who he kept almost compulsively compartmentalized. Unfortunately, save for Nora, the inconsistent characters often feel less considered than Daveโ€™s descriptions of decor and dining. Itโ€™s a mixed bag. Agent: Suzanne Gluck, WME.

Narrator Julia Whelan portrays Nora Noone with an earnest tone in this gripping family drama. Nora's father, Liam, a thrice-married hotel magnate, has become distant from his grown children. After recently changing his will, he falls from a slippery cliff at a California seaside cottage. Did he slip, or was he pushed? Whelan voices Nora's estranged stepbrother, Sam, with a brash tone as they investigate what police have determined to be an accidental death. Whelan uses her abundant vocal gifts to increase the tension when long-hidden family secrets shake Nora and Sam to their cores. Bestselling novelist Dave and narrator Whelan are an ideal pairing.
